90+ points by Robert Parker for Eurynome red 2013

Robert Parker, the leading US wine critic, awarded one of our most impressive wines its first 90+ score! The organic Eurynome red 2013, with the highly esteemed “PDO Goumenissa” status and a blend of Xinomavro and Negoska.

This is the first 90+ score by Robert Parker (via Mark Squires, who is responsible for reviewing all Greek wines) for the organic Chatzivariti winery. The winery also received 89 points for its Eurynome white 2014 (Roditis), and its Staphylus red 2013 (Xinomavro / Cabernet Sauvignon)!

A quote from the positive review provides more details:

A 70%/30% blend of Xinomavro and Negoska, it was aged for 12 months in an equal mixture of new, second and third use French oak. This doesn’t project a lot of concentration on opening, but it keeps fleshing out in the glass. Plus, the fruit is more expressive now, opening with a rich, chocolate-laced edge. It feels respectably full in the mouth now, finishing with bursts of flavor. It doesn’t stay exactly that way, though. With air, the acidity cuts through the fruit and enlivens the wine. It finishes with increasing tightness around the edges, becoming a bit stern and austere at various intervals as the acidity and tannins take over. It seems more powerful now than it did on release, but it is the development of the fruit that makes a much bigger difference. If it is sometimes austere, it is often simply delicious.
